Axe Recruiting is proud to represent a well-established and rapidly growing steel and architectural fabrication firm in its search for a Business Development Executive to join the Building & Construction division. This role is designed for a driven, strategically-minded sales professional who thrives in complex construction environments and has a solid grasp of steel fabrication and installation processes.
This position will be instrumental in driving growth and increasing market share through proactive engagement with general contractors, engineers, architects, developer reps, and property owners. The ideal candidate is resourceful, solutions-oriented, and deeply committed to fostering long-term client partnerships. A working knowledge of steel and architectural fabrication methods, combined with an ability to navigate technical sales and construction environments, is critical to success.
Key Responsibilities:
Proactively develop new business accounts and deepen existing relationships to secure large-scale construction contracts.
Utilize strategic account planning and manage the sales pipeline to meet quarterly and annual targets.
Follow a disciplined, consultative sales process: prospecting, qualifying, identifying needs, presenting value propositions, negotiating, and closing.
Collaborate cross-functionally with the operations team to execute strategic plans and maximize revenue potential.
Remain informed of industry trends, market drivers, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities.
Serve as a brand ambassador through industry engagement and community involvement.
Oversee prequalification documentation and participate in high-value pursuit teams.
Liaise effectively with estimating, proposal, and marketing teams to coordinate RFP/RFQ submissions.
Assess project opportunities through a strategic Go/No-Go framework, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Present regular progress reports and insights to senior management.
Promote the firm’s capabilities to developers, government officials, consultants, architects, and main contractors.
Maintain and track stakeholder interactions via CRM tools, ensuring data integrity and pipeline transparency.
Foster strategic relationships with developers, architects, and influencers; conduct cold outreach when necessary to build rapport and gain critical project insights.
Support strategic planning initiatives by analyzing market trends, district goals, and client needs.
Prepare sales engineering reports by consolidating relevant technical and sales data.
Coordinate technical requirements with internal teams and oversee change management processes.
Develop negotiating strategies that align with the company’s broader business strategy.
Lead contract negotiations, from initial proposal through to integration and execution.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, or equivalent experience in business development, engineering, or construction management.
10+ years of relevant experience in the construction or built environment industry is required.
Strong background in steel or architectural fabrication is a significant advantage.
Exceptional interpersonal, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Proven track record of building lasting, profitable relationships with key decision-makers.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.
Outstanding organizational capabilities and attention to detail.
