Overview
Axe Recruiting has been retained by a respected and fast-growing mental health organization to identify and secure a full-time Intake Specialist / Coordinator for their Westbury, NY location. This is an immediate and urgent need, with the potential for future flexibility or remote work as the organization expands its clinical operations.
This position plays a key role in the patient experience, serving as the first point of contact and facilitating the intake, verification, and scheduling process. The ideal candidate is highly organized, patient-focused, and comfortable managing the operational demands of a clinical environment.
Compensation
Hourly: $18.00 – $22.00 per hour (based on experience)
Employment Type: Full-Time (initial), Hourly, Non-Exempt
Future conversion to part-time may be possible, subject to clinic needs
Key Responsibilities of Intake Specialist
Welcome and assist new and existing patients in a courteous and professional manner
Conduct intake screenings, gathering demographic, insurance, and referral information
Verify insurance coverage and explain benefit details to patients accurately
Schedule initial appointments with appropriate clinical providers
Maintain accurate documentation within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
Coordinate communication between patients, providers, and administrative/billing teams
Support daily front-desk operations and ensure the clinic environment runs smoothly
Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and all applicable patient confidentiality regulations
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; associate’s or bachelor’s degree preferred
Previous experience in medical or mental health intake, scheduling, or administrative support strongly preferred
Proficiency with EMR systems and insurance verification processes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work effectively within a team
Bilingual (Spanish) is considered a strong asset
