About Our Client
Axe Recruiting has been engaged by a mission-driven, veteran-owned behavioral health organization delivering accessible, insurance-covered mental health services. While serving a broad population, the organization maintains a strong focus on supporting veterans, servicemembers, first responders, and their families through community-based partnerships and high-quality clinical care.
The organization is in a growth phase and is actively expanding referral partnerships, employer relationships, and contract-based programs across healthcare, education, and public-sector environments.
Position Overview
This is not a transactional sales role.
Our client is hiring a Business Development Representative who operates comfortably in relationship-driven, contract-based environments. The role is centered on building long-term partnerships that materially expand access to care—not quick, one-off deals.
The right candidate understands that high-value partnerships take time to develop, but also recognizes the meaningful earning upside tied to owning and closing those relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Partnership & Relationship Development
Build and manage referral and partnership relationships with:
Healthcare providers and clinics
Community organizations and nonprofits
Employers, EAPs, and unions
Schools, municipalities, and public-sector entities
Serve as a trusted external representative of the organization’s mission, services, and access model.
Contract & Deal Development
Identify and pursue partnership and contract opportunities, including:
Employer-based mental health programs
School districts and education systems
Government agencies and RFP-based initiatives
Support the full deal lifecycle: discovery, coordination, proposal development, internal approvals, and handoff.
Collaborate closely with leadership to structure sustainable, scalable partnerships.
Outreach & Market Expansion
Execute consistent outbound and in-person outreach through:
Targeted calling and email campaigns
On-site visits and partner meetings
Networking events, coalitions, and community forums
Maintain a strong local presence and professional reputation across the ecosystem.
Internal Collaboration & Reporting
Maintain accurate CRM records covering outreach activity, meetings, and pipeline status.
Coordinate with operations, intake, and leadership to ensure partnerships are executable and aligned with capacity.
Provide regular updates on deal progress, revenue impact, and growth opportunities.
What Success Looks Like (12-Month View)
A healthy pipeline of active referral and partnership relationships.
Consistent progress toward closing multiple partnership deals annually, including:
Several smaller referral or contract relationships, and
At least one larger institutional or employer partnership over time.
Clear contribution to revenue growth through partnerships that scale beyond individual referrals.
Strong field presence and trusted standing with community and institutional partners.
Compensation & Earning Potential
On-Target Earnings (OTE)
Year 1 OTE: $85,000–$110,000+ USD
OTE reflects base compensation plus realistic performance incentives for a representative meeting expectations within the first 12 months.
Base Compensation
Probationary Period (first 90 days): $55,000 annualized
Post-Probation Base: $60,000 annualized
Payroll: Bi-weekly
Performance Incentives
Incentives are earned through partnership development, contract execution, and revenue-generating initiatives.
Baseline performance is expected to generate an additional $10,000–$15,000 annually, bringing total compensation into the $85,000–$95,000 range.
Strong performance, including multiple partnership closes and at least one meaningful institutional deal, reasonably supports total compensation in the $95,000–$110,000+ range.
Exceptional performance—such as closing larger employer, school district, or public-sector contracts—may result in five-figure commission payouts on a single deal, allowing earnings to materially exceed OTE.
Commission is paid on gross revenue, with percentage-based incentives tied directly to deal size and structure. The incentive framework is transparent and may evolve as the organization scales.
Ideal Candidate Profile
Experience
2–5 years of experience in business development, partnerships, or consultative sales.
Experience with healthcare, behavioral health, education, or public-sector contracts is strongly preferred.
Comfort navigating longer sales cycles and multiple stakeholders.
Attributes
Confident, self-directed, and motivated by performance-based upside.
Strong communicator with professional presence in partner-facing environments.
Organized, persistent, and disciplined with follow-up and CRM usage.
Comfortable operating in a growth-stage environment where structures continue to mature.
Work Structure
Hybrid role based in Westbury, NY.
Early success requires consistent field presence and in-person relationship building.
Flexibility increases as independence and performance are demonstrated.
Role begins part-time, with a defined path to full-time status.
