EMDR Therapist – Outpatient Mental Health Services

About the Opportunity

Axe Recruiting is partnering with a growing outpatient mental health organization in Westbury, New York to identify an experienced EMDR Provider to support the expansion of trauma-informed outpatient behavioral health services.

This opportunity is open to qualified behavioral health professionals with EMDR training and appropriate New York State licensure. Compensation and clinical responsibilities will vary based on license level, scope of practice, experience, and whether the provider is delivering psychotherapy, advanced clinical treatment, psychiatric care, medication management, or a combination of services.

The organization is seeking a compassionate, clinically grounded provider who can support patients impacted by trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, attachment disruption, adverse life experiences, and related behavioral health concerns.

Candidates must be operating within their legal scope of practice and must have appropriate training, supervision, and licensure for the services they provide.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Care & Treatment Delivery

• Provide trauma-informed outpatient behavioral health services to patients based on licensure, training, and scope of practice.
• Deliver EMDR therapy or EMDR-informed treatment when clinically appropriate and within scope.
• Conduct clinical assessments and support individualized treatment planning.
• Provide care for patients presenting with trauma-related symptoms, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, grief, stress, and other behavioral health concerns.
• Monitor patient progress and adjust care plans based on patient needs, treatment goals, and clinical presentation.
• Escalate clinical risk concerns appropriately according to organizational protocols.

EMDR & Trauma-Focused Care

• Integrate EMDR into treatment planning when appropriate for the patient’s readiness, stability, and clinical needs.
• Assess stabilization needs, coping capacity, safety factors, dissociation concerns, and appropriateness for EMDR treatment.
• Support patients through preparation, resourcing, reprocessing, and follow-up phases of care.
• Maintain ethical and clinically responsible use of EMDR protocols.
• Participate in consultation, supervision, continuing education, or peer collaboration where appropriate.

Documentation & Compliance

• Complete clinical documentation accurately and on time in the organization’s EMR system.
• Maintain assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, risk documentation, and discharge planning in accordance with organizational, payer, and regulatory requirements.
• Follow confidentiality, consent, HIPAA, documentation, and professional practice standards.
• Participate in chart reviews, quality improvement activities, audits, supervision, or clinical consultation as required.

Collaboration & Team-Based Care

• Collaborate with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, therapists, social workers, care coordinators, administrative staff, and leadership.
• Coordinate care with internal and external providers where appropriate and authorized.
• Communicate clearly regarding patient needs, clinical concerns, treatment barriers, and continuity of care.
• Contribute to a professional, respectful, and patient-centered clinical environment.

Patient Access & Engagement

• Maintain an agreed-upon schedule and caseload based on employment structure.
• Support timely access to care for new and existing patients.
• Help reduce avoidable cancellations and support ongoing patient engagement.
• Provide a consistent, professional, and compassionate patient experience.

Required Qualifications

• Active or eligible New York State licensure appropriate to the provider’s role and scope of practice.
• Completion of EMDR basic training or equivalent EMDR training pathway.
• Experience providing behavioral health, psychotherapy, trauma-informed care, psychiatric care, or related outpatient mental health services.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed treatment principles.
• Ability to complete timely and accurate documentation.
• Strong communication, clinical judgment, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Westbury, NY, with hybrid flexibility considered depending on organizational needs and role structure.

Preferred Qualifications

• EMDRIA Certified Therapist credential.
• Experience treating PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, attachment-related concerns, or adverse childhood experiences.
• Experience working with children, adolescents, adults, families, or young adults.
• Experience in outpatient behavioral health, community mental health, private practice, hospital-based practice, or integrated care settings.
• Familiarity with Medicaid, commercial insurance, documentation requirements, treatment planning, and payer standards.
• Experience collaborating with psychiatric providers, PMHNPs, social workers, therapists, and care coordination teams.
• Bilingual ability is a plus but not required.

Compensation

Compensation for this role is license-dependent and will be aligned with the provider’s scope of practice, clinical responsibilities, schedule, and experience level.

General compensation guidance may include:

• LMSW / supervised clinical provider: approximately $60,000 – $75,000+
• LCSW / LMHC / LMFT / independently licensed therapist: approximately $85,000 – $115,000+
• Advanced trauma therapist / EMDRIA-certified provider / child and adolescent specialist: approximately $105,000 – $125,000+
• Psychologist, PsyD, or PhD-level provider: approximately $120,000 – $150,000+
• PMHNP with relevant behavioral health scope: approximately $140,000 – $170,000+
• Psychiatrist: approximately $250,000+, depending on schedule, clinical scope, and whether the role includes medication management, psychiatric evaluations, leadership responsibilities, or therapy services.

Final compensation will be determined by licensure, experience, patient population, productivity expectations, full-time or part-time schedule, onsite/hybrid arrangement, and overall fit for the organization’s clinical needs.

What Success Looks Like

The successful provider will deliver high-quality, trauma-informed care while maintaining strong documentation, patient engagement, and collaboration with the broader clinical team.

Within the first several months, this provider will be expected to integrate into the clinical team, maintain an appropriate caseload or patient schedule, follow documentation standards, and provide meaningful care to patients who may benefit from EMDR, trauma-informed therapy, psychiatric support, or related behavioral health services.
