About Our Client
Axe Recruiting has been engaged by a mission-driven, veteran-owned behavioral health organization that provides accessible, insurance-covered mental health services. While the organization serves a broad and diverse community, a core focus includes supporting veterans, servicemembers, first responders, and their families through high-quality care and community-based partnerships.
Position Summary
Our client is hiring a proactive and motivated Business Development Representative (BDR) to help drive growth and expand their reach across the community and healthcare ecosystem. This role is the “boots on the ground” function for outreach—identifying opportunities, building referral relationships, and developing strategic partnerships.
This is a high-activity role for someone who enjoys being in the field, building trust with partners, and turning conversations into measurable outcomes that increase access to care.
Key Responsibilities
Relationship Management: Identify, initiate, and maintain strong relationships with healthcare providers, local clinics, insurers, EAPs, and community organizations to expand referral volume and access to services.
Lead Generation & Outreach: Proactively develop new referral sources through cold calling, email outreach, networking, and in-person site visits.
Contract Support: Assist in researching and identifying contract opportunities, including government RFPs, provider agreements, and private-sector partnerships. Support proposal and submission workflows as needed.
Community Engagement: Participate in, develop, and host community events, workshops, and informational sessions to increase awareness of services.
Coalition Participation: Represent the organization in coalitions and local meetings to identify needs and develop meaningful partnerships that support at-risk populations.
Market Research: Track regional healthcare trends, competitor activity, payer dynamics, and emerging mental health needs and translate insights into actionable outreach strategy.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with marketing, clinical, and operational teams to ensure outreach aligns with service capabilities, intake workflows, and capacity.
CRM & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of leads, contacts, meetings, and outreach activity in the CRM. Provide regular reporting on pipeline progress and outcomes.
Presentations: Deliver presentations and proposals to prospective partners and community groups, clearly communicating mission, access model, and differentiators.
Success Metrics (What Strong Performance Looks Like)
Consistent qualified meetings booked with priority referral partners (medical practices, clinics, community orgs, EAPs, employer groups, and veteran/first responder organizations).
Growth in active referral pipeline and partner conversion, tracked in CRM.
Minimum of two events per month attended (one community-facing and one networking/professional), with preference for hosting or co-hosting community-facing events.
Clear contribution to growth indicators (referrals generated, intake conversion influence, partnership outcomes).
Requirements
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred.
Experience: 1–3 years of business development, sales, or community outreach experience. Healthcare or mental health experience is strongly preferred.
Skills & Attributes
Exceptional Communication: Strong interpersonal and presentation skills with the ability to build rapport quickly.
Persistence & Drive: Self-motivated and results-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to maintain high outreach activity and follow-through.
Organization & CRM Discipline: Proficiency with CRM systems (e.g., HubSpot, Salesforce) and ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously.
Adaptability: Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to adjust tactics based on market feedback.
Mission Alignment: Strong alignment with serving veterans, servicemembers, first responders, and the broader community through accessible, insurance-covered mental health services.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Compensation
Probation (first 90 days): $55,000 annualized (equivalent to $26.44/hour)
After probation: $60,000 annualized (equivalent to $28.85/hour)
Payroll: Bi-weekly
